SFC meets Malaysian SDG

The meeting was the first between the two entities; served to introduce the National Standards development work in Malaysia to the Department. The SDG obtained valuable insights into the plans of the state of Sabah with regards forest certification.

Various policy approaches were discussed, particularly with the aim of enabling Sabah’s FMUs to comply with the requirements of the new and improved FSC scheme.

The Sabah Forestry Department is the only State in Malaysia to have issued a circular that all FMUs in the state must obtain certification by 2014.
