This first assembly of both individual and organization members of FSC in Malaysia, the meeting aimed to introduce members on the progress of the FSC development in Malaysia, and to vote into office a new board of directors. FSC International’s Asia Pacific Regional Director, Alistair Monument, was in attendance.

The one-day meeting provided members with recent developments that have occurred with the FSC process at the global level as well as information on FSC strategies in the Asia Pacific region. Members were brought up to speed on the development of the National FSC Standards, Forest Sustainability Malaysia (FSM) and its aims, including in the context of establishing an FSC National Office in Malaysia. Deliberations on needs and objectives, deliverables and efficiency of a National Office were held, including some overarching concerns from social NGOs and their support towards FSC.
