PETALING JAYA, 25 September 2018: Over 7 in 10 Malaysians will buy products with a certified eco-friendly logo. Nearly 6 in 10 are willing to do so even if such certified products cost up to 10% more, according to findings from the first ever Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) survey in Malaysia.

Survey results were released ahead of FSC Friday on 28 September, which celebrates the importance of the world's forests and the key role FSC plays in their preservation through responsible forest management.

A total of 1,000 Malaysians participated in the survey, which was conducted by WAYY Consulting, an independent research and strategy firm. The nationwide survey took place from 26 July to 10 August 2018.

In Malaysia, public awareness and understanding of sustainable forest management require improvement. Only one in five respondents (21%) says they are familiar with the FSC logo.

Apart from measuring FSC’s brand awareness, the survey was also designed to understand the impact of its logo on purchasing decisions amongst Malaysians.

Respondents were shown a one-minute video explaining FSC’s objectives during the interview. Likelihood of purchase increased by 20% after respondents watched the video.

"FSC logo can be found in many common products in our daily lives, for example juice cartons, paper products and furniture." FSC Malaysia’s Country Manager Leslie Jong added. "Products with the FSC label present consumers with an easy way to spend responsibly and ethically. We hope Malaysians will make the right choice."
