We are pleased to welcome Charmaine Chee as the new Country Manager of FSC Malaysia. As Country Manager, Charmaine plays a key role as an ambassador of FSC, leading the implementation of its global strategy at the national level. She is expected to strengthen FSC’s local presence, drive the expansion of FSC’s network and reach, enhance the relationships with our stakeholders, and manage all the organisation’s operations within the country.

Charmaine is an advocate for nature. After serving over a decade in the financial services sector, she pursued a career promoting sustainability starting with a role in Corporate Governance & Sustainability at the local stock exchange, followed by a CSR lead role. Most recently, she was a member of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Asia Sustainable Finance team based out of Kuala Lumpur.

Charmaine joins us at a critical time when Malaysia is facing an unprecedented environment – a confluence of global and domestic humanitarian and economic crisis brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a stark reminder that we live in an interconnected world, where the result of human’s interaction with the natural world is not confined to a country or single populace. The pandemic has accelerated the sustainability agenda, the need for more cooperation and coordination between the Government, public and private sectors and urgent action.

Reflecting on her role, Charmaine said, “It’s an honour for me to be part of the world’s respected and leading forest certification organisation. At FSC, our mission is to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Forests are precious – they play an important role in not only preserving the biodiversity and ecosystems that are essential to the well-being of all life on earth, but also as a solution to the climate crisis.

I am looking forward to working together with the FSC network in delivering on our mandate and the trust of all our stakeholders as the steward in responsible forest management in Malaysia.

Whilst meetings with Charmaine will be done online during this period of safe distancing and “movement control”, she looks forward to meeting with the FSC network in person when it is appropriate and the opportunity arises.
