The “FSC Goes to School” event, which garnered a large crowd, saw children aged 7 to 12 years old participating in a host of fun-filled activities with FSC Malaysia. Activities such as “Building the Nicest Tree”, “Seed Planting”, and a colouring contest were designed to captivate the interests of the children while delivering FSC’s message.

FSC Friday is an annual, global celebration that aims to support, celebrate and raise awareness of responsible forest management and the role that FSC plays in it. On FSC Friday, organisations, schools, FSC certificate holders, members, and partners around the world host events designed to engage consumers to think responsibly when purchasing forest products.

Ms Bernadette Joeman from the Sabah Forestry Department (SFD), Ms. Dorin Yew from Kimberly Clark Professional, Mr Leslie Jong from FSC Malaysia and Mr HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Malls & Theme Parks were present to grace the occasion.

“The fight against illegal deforestation and understanding the importance of forests in our daily lives need to be instilled at the grassroots level.” This message was emphasised by Leslie Jong, FSC Malaysia’s Country Manager.

“There is an increasing need for the younger generation to understand the values of conserving our environment, and the role that FSC plays in helping to achieve this goal. Look for the FSC label when buying forest products, and you can be sure that you are buying responsibly”.

Representing Sabah Forestry Department, Ms Bernadette Joeman emphasized, “We must always involve the younger generation in our forest conservation efforts. Being FSC’s largest forest management certificate holder in Malaysia, Sabah Forestry Department wholeheartedly support this initiative from FSC Malaysia”.

Sunway Malls became the first group of malls in Malaysia to receive an FSC Promotional license from FSC International. Sunway Malls is committed to using only FSC certified Kimberly Clark paper products.

HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Malls and Theme Parks said “As a whole, Sunway Malls is committed to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and we are proud to be the first group of malls to obtain the FSC Promotional License, supporting FSC Malaysia’s initiative in forest preservation. This children’s workshop is one way of creating awareness and instilling early education on the value of forests, but we are taking it a step further by placing Save the Forests stickers in our washrooms, advocating our shoppers to take only the necessary amount of paper products required for use. Every action, no matter how big or small, plays a role for a more sustainable future.”
